Judy Pryor-Ramirez is the Director of the Office of Civic Engagement and Social Justice at Lang where she oversees a vibrant portfolio of programs for students, faculty, alumni, and community partners. She teaches part-time and directs the Minor in Ethnicity and Race at The New School. Judy believes in the power of education as a liberatory practice as discussed in bell hooks’ text, Teaching to Transgress. Her teaching and research explore the intersections of race/ethnicity, gender, class and notions of power and decoloniality as it relates to youth, women, and communities of color.
Outside of The New School, Judy is a scholarly and community advisor for Brooklyn Historical Society’s project, Crossing Borders, Bridging Generations. She co-authored a digital curriculum for educators grades 6-12 which utilizes the society’s collection of oral history and public programming materials to examine the history and experiences of mixed-heritage people, cultural hybridity, race, ethnicity, and identity. Crossing Borders, Bridging Generations was awarded the Oral History Association’s 2015 Elizabeth B. Mason Award for large projects.
